The Highlight

The land’s history goes back to 1942 when villagers, called "Agong," began cultivating coconut trees and rice fields, creating a traditional village setting complete with rice barns and classic kampung houses. Bujang's valley's significance in regional trade networks from the 5th to 14th centuries is well-documented, showcasing its role in the spread of Hinduism and Buddhism throughout the Malay Archipelago

The Experience

Located in mainland Penang just 14 kilometres (a 20-minute drive) from the Butterworth jetty terminal, Kampung Agong is a picturesque space surrounded by swaying coconut trees (there's an estimate of 500 trees here!) and traditional wooden kampung houses built on stilts. The coconut trees here look especially beautiful against a clear blue sky and vast paddy fields

Bujang Valley's strategic location along the trade routes between the East and the West made it a pivotal entrepôt in the region. Historical records and archaeological findings indicate that this area was a melting pot of cultures, religions, and commerce, facilitating the exchange of goods and ideas between traders from the Indian subcontinent, China, the Middle East, and Southeast Asian kingdoms. The valley's significance in regional trade networks from the 5th to 14th centuries is well-documented, showcasing its role in the spread of Hinduism and Buddhism throughout the Malay Archipelago.
